Springfield, Missouri, regarded as a best city for job growth

An analysis conducted by Joel Kotkin, a growth analyst and acclaimed writer for The New Geography, lists Springfield, Missouri, as the 13th Best City for Job Growth amongst midsize cities in the United States and one of only two Missouri cities ranked within the top 100 of all cities.

Four measurements of growth were utilized in examining 398 metro areas using U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data from the past 10 years. The rankings indicate the vigor of a region’s growth most recently and over a period of time, examining both employment and industry categories.

With a metro area of nearly 450,000, Springfield, Missouri, continues to experience growth, adding over 5,000 jobs over the past 12 months. The area has also continued to experience a decrease in unemployment with a current unemployment rate of 5.8%, ranking Springfield 69 out of 372 metro areas.
