2010 Census Data for the Springfield Region Released

The release of the 2010 Census data shows the Springfield region and southwest Missouri continue to be the fastest growing areas of the state of Missouri. Six counties within the Springfield region, including Christian, Greene, Polk, Stone, Taney, and Webster, ranked in the top 20 fastest growing counties, with Christian County ranking as the fastest growing county in the state of Missouri. The Springfield metro area grew at a rate of 18.6% bringing the population to 436,712 people.

Here are some fast facts of the Springfield region as reflected in the 2010 Census data:

The Springfield metro area grew by 18.6% to 436,712 people.

Christian County remains the fastest growing county in Missouri with 42.6% growth.

Greene County grew by 14.5%, doubling the state growth rate of 7.0%.

Regional cities Battlefield, Rogersville, Ozark, Republic, Branson, Willard and Nixa all grew more than 50% in the past decade.

Springfield remains the third largest city in Missouri with 5.2% growth, ahead of Kansas City with 4.1% growth and St. Louis City with -8.3%.

Springfield metro area’s diversity increased 2.3% with the white non-Hispanic population shifting from 93.5% to 91.5%.

The Springfield metro area’s Hispanic population grew by 91.8% over the 10-year period making it the fastest growing minority category.

80% of the ten counties that make up the Springfield region experienced a growth rate above the state’s growth rate of 7.0%.
