Springfield, Missouri was recently recognized as the no. 5 city in Business Insider’s list of the 15 most fun American cities that are actually affordable.

Using WalletHub’s 2016 Most fun cities in America ranking as a guide, Business Insider was able to determine which cities could be recognized as “both fun and affordable.”

More information about the methodology used to determine which cities made the grade can be found here.  However, the original ranking by WalletHub “compared the 150 largest US cities based on 51 key metrics, ranging from number of fitness centers per capita to movie costs to number of music venues per capita. Each city was scored on three categories: entertainment and recreation, nightlife and parties, and costs.”

Business Insider averaged the cities’ overall score and costs score — which was made up of 10 metrics that included average food cost, movie costs, bowling costs, and average beer price — to compile their ranking.  Only the cities with the lowest averages made the top of the list.
